Small creeping plant riddled with linear leaves, the Inuit harvested the juicy black crowberry berries in the fall. This plant is placed in the blueberry family (Ericaceae). Besides the edible and delicious berries, the leafy stems present certain interest as combustible plant, mattress, mosquito repellent or, better, as tea. It stimulates the secretion of mucous, thereby reducing airway inflammation. The Inuit also used it against hypothermia.
